Wrestling Federation Ponders Foreign Coach Ahead Of Olympics

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, says the federation is considering hiring a foreign coach to help the qualified wrestlers to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan get adequate preparations for the Games.

A total of five wrestlers: Odunayo Adekuoroye, Blessing Oborududu, Aminat Adeniyi, Adijat Idris and Ekerekeme Agiomor have all qualified in the men and women’s wrestling events of the rescheduled Games billed for July 24 to August 8.

Igali says he will be having some discussions with the sports minister and may likely bring in someone (foreign coach) to support the team, even if it is for just six weeks, before the Olympics. A coach that will come and booster the team and work on some deficiencies that have been noticed in the athletes. One week after the sports festival, they will converge in Bayelsa for a month of intensive training and that is the period he may bring the new coach. At the end of May, they will have a wrestling classic in Bayelsa, which will be their final competition on home soil.
