South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa said in an address to the nation that the country had largely passed its peak of infections attributed to the third wave of Covid-19 that has been raging in the country since last May.

This easing of restrictions comes after the average daily number of new confirmed cases over the last week was found to be around 12,000, a 20% drop from the previous week.
