Flood Destroys Over 150 Hectares Of Rice Farms, Bridges In Bauchi Communities

Several farmlands, including 150 hectares of rice farm, bridges and culverts have been destroyed by flood in some villages in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The flood caused a breakdown of some bridges in GambarZugum, GambarLere Bar Arewa, Bar Kudu, GizakiNdit, Tadnum, Bugun and Dhrbi communities.

The Chief of Ndit community, Ezekiel Daniel, says that the 150 hectares of rice farm in his community were submerged and destroyed by the flood.

He noted that the residents are now living in fear and uncertainty as to what next will happen, even as he called on the government to urgently assist the communities and the farmers so as to ameliorate their suffering.

The Information Officer at the Local Government Area, Gomna James, says the council chairman, Iliya Habila, who visited the affected areas to ascertain the level of damage suffered by the communities, sympathised with the farmers and all the communities affected.

He says,inspecting the affected areas, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Iliya Habila, expressed deep concern over the development, which has cut off some communities from each other.

James says that some residents of the affected communities, including traditional rulers, commended the chairman for the timely visit to the affected areas.
