COVID-19 Still Slowing Down Infrastructure Projects, Says Engineers

The COVID-19 pandemic is still slowing down the development of infrastructure projects across the country as many construction workers are not confident to fully resume work on project sites.

The Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers, an arm of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, which stated this added that the outbreak of the pandemic would continue to slow infrastructure projects.

The President, NIStructE, Kehinde Osifala, spoke for the organisation in Abuja at a press briefing organised by the institution ahead of its 2020 annual conference and 33rd Annual General Meeting.

He said, “The outbreak of COVID-19 has negatively impacted the development of infrastructure. It is only when you are healthy that you can think of designing or going to site to supervise structures that will benefit the economy.”

He added that the negative impact of COVID-19 on the construction industry was unquantifiable.
